Built for the decisions
that actually get made.

Most AI policy work is written for the room it was drafted in. Ours is written for the rooms where AI capability becomes doctrine, acquisition, and operational decision.

Why we exist.

Frontier AI is moving faster than the institutions responsible for fielding it.

Two communities — the frontier AI labs and the National Security Enterprise — are converging on a problem neither one was built for. Frontier Security Institute exists to deliver the independent analysis both sides rely on: stress-testing capabilities, translating findings, and giving operators, policymakers, and acquisition leaders the clarity to act.

We are an independently governed affiliate of the Center for AI Safety. AI Safety is the larger mission. Frontier Security Institute extends that mission into the operational and institutional environments where national security decisions actually happen.

Why it matters

"National security technology now lives entirely inside the commercial sector — a structural condition without modern precedent."

If no one clears the institutional space between frontier labs and federal decision-makers, the gap widens with every model release. The cost is paid in doctrine that doesn't catch up, acquisition pathways that don't open, and strategic surprises that didn't need to be surprises.

Voice & posture

Patient and rigorous externally. Ambitious and connected internally.

Voice

Credible Measured Deliberative Substantive Non-partisan

The published work reads the way it does on purpose. Not contrarian, not consensus-seeking — argued from evidence, sourced from people in the room, and signed by individuals who carry institutional credit they cannot afford to spend recklessly.

Posture

A long-cycle posture that takes current political volatility as the operating environment, not as the strategy.

The work is built to last past whichever administration is in power — to withstand this wave and ride the next. We move with the speed of a frontier lab and the discipline of a national laboratory.
